Islamabad, February 06, 2015 (PPI-OT): Dr. Mohammed Aslam has assumed the charge of Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan. He is the first CEO appointed in line with the DRAP Act 2012 after fulfilling all requirements and formalities. Prior to this appointment Mr. Arshad Khan Director Legal Affairs of DRAP was looking after the day to day work of CEOI DRAP.
The position was also held in the past by a Senior Joint Secretary and an Ex-Director General Health on temporary and additional charge basis. Appointment of a regular full time incumbent to head this key organization was a long standing legal requirement and demand of stakeholders including the industry being critical to the optimal functioning of an organization regulating one of the country’s largest industry.
The appointment was made through open advertisement. The applications received were forwarded to the Commission for appointment of heads of Federal Government bodies. The short listing was carried out in a highly transparent manner by M/s Ferguson.
Dr. Muhammad Aslam was placed at the top position in the short listing by M/s Ferguson and was subsequently endorsed by the Policy board of DRAP comprising representatives of all provinces. The recommendation was then forwarded for formal approval of the Prime Minister.
Dr. Muhammad Aslam is seen as an accomplished professional in the field of Pharmaceuticals and has been associated in the past with the industry. He had resigned from his work in the Pharma industry which was also a pre-requisite for appointment as CEO DRAP. It is hoped that the merit based and transparent appointment through open advertisement would strengthen DRAP and improve its functioning.
