NDMA sends relief goods to avalanche-hit Chitral

In Chitral, rescue operation is in full swing at Sher Shal village in Garam Chasma tehsil, where twenty-five houses were completely destroyed in an avalanche last night.

National Disaster Management Authority has sent relief goods to Chitral to help the affected people.

The relief goods include 100 blankets, 50 quilts, winter shalls 20, stoves 50, 30 flour packages of 20 kilogram each, plastic mates 10 and first aid medicines.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed all relevant Federal and Provincial authorities to reach the site immediately and undertake rescue and relief work.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also directed the district administration and Provincial Disaster Management Authority to accelerate rescue and relief operation in the village.

Meanwhile, Provincial Disaster Management Authority Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to dispatch relief goods to Chitral.

A spokesman of the authority told our Peshawar correspondent that the goods include one hundred blankets, fifty quilts, mats, plastic sheets and flour.

The relief goods will be airlifted to Chitral when the weather become clear.

Lowari Top and Chitral-Garam Chasma roads are blocked for all sort of traffic due to heavy snow and land sliding.

Meanwhile, another dead body was recovered from the debris in Sher Shawal raising the death toll to ten.
