Srinagar, January 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, pro-India ruling National Conference condemning the indiscriminate firing by Indian troops at peaceful civilians in Chandgam and Pulwama has urged Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress leader, Sonia Gandhi and Defence Minister A.K Antony to take strong notice of such incidents, saying no any civil society can accept such excesses on civilians.
The NC Spokesman, Tanvir Sadiq in a statement in Srinagar blaming the Indian Army for subverting peace efforts in Kashmir said, “The armed forces shouldn’t repeat the mistakes that led to earlier spells of mass unrest in the Valley.”
The statement said such incidents are totally unacceptable, and the party won’t tolerate atrocities against civilians that alienate the people further. “There should be an impartial probe into the Pulwama incident and we demand the harshest punishment to anyone responsible,” the spokesman added.
He said that the troops in the garb of AFSPA you cannot simply go on doing what you want,” the spokesman said. Recalling 2010 agitation, Tanvir said, “A series of events resulted in the sort of protests that you saw on the streets, and the origins of that lie in the fake encounter that took place in Kashmir’s Machil area where a unit of the army took three civilians and killed them.”
“This incident provoked a lot of anger,” he added. “The cases like the Machil and Pathribal resonate in the Valley, the wounds of which are yet to be healed,” said Sadiq, adding, “If you don’t learn from your these past mistakes then we are sorry you are only making things worse for the people who have sacrificed a lot to restore peace in the Valley.”
