Srinagar, May 01, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, Chairperson of local Commission for Women, Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor, has asked the police to release the Handwara molestation victim from detention in the name of security cover.
Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor in a media interview in Srinagar said that she had visited Zachaldara two days ago and spent some time with the girl. Her father was also supposed to file an application with police for her release.
“Some two-three cops remain around the house,” she said.
The girl is in police custody since April 12 after she was molested by an Indian soldier. On that day, two youth and a 53-year old woman were killed in Army firing in Handwara after protests broke out in the town against the molestation of the girl.
Pertinently, after April 12, the protests intensified and two more youth were killed in Kupwara district—one by police in Drugmulla and another by Army in Nutnusa on Srinagar-Kupwara highway.
Nayeema said she met the girl in front of her parents.
Mehjoor said. “Once she is set free, we will again record her statement.”
Mehjoor said that girl is interested in continuing her studies.
Meanwhile, Indian Army did not respond to the letter written by Additional Deputy Commissioner to the Army asking to clear its position about the incident.
“Army did not respond and we have written to them again today,” officials told media persons.
