Islamabad: National Power Construction Corporation (NPCC), a Pakistani State enterprise in the Ministry of Water and Power has won the Contract for Turnkey Construction of 380kV Transmission Line associated with Sanabl in the Western region of Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia valuing SR 288.0 million (Pak. Rs. 7 billion). This was announced today by Syed Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister for Water and Power through a Press Release.
The Minister further stated that the award of the Contract was pursuant to competitive international bidding where besides NPCC, four other prequalified Saudi, Korean and Indian companies submitted bids on 21st September 2011.
It is recalled that NPCC, flag-bearer of Pakistan Construction Industry has been actively engaged since 1977 in execution of Power Projects in Saudi Arabia and also undertook rehabilitation of Power Network in Kuwait in early 1990s.
The Projects include High Voltage Transmission Lines; Substations, Underground Cable Networks, Rural Electrification in the regions of Al-Kharj; Wadi Al-Dawasar; Tabouk; Qaseem, Yanbu; Makkah Al Mukarrama and Madina Al Munawwrah. NPCC has earned recognition of a highly professional outfit and its performance continuously lauded by Saudi authorities. The Company is now poised to enter African market that has high business potential in its specialty.
Syed Naveed Qamar added that NPCC has all along been a self-financing unit making handsome contribution to the national exchequer and providing overseas employment to a large number of Pakistani Managers, Engineers, Technical and unskilled staff and thus a big source of foreign exchange earnings for Pakistan.
While congratulating NPCC’s management and staff Syed Naveed Qamar was confident that the Company will continue to secure new Projects in Middle East and Africa and keep Pakistan’s flag flying in these markets. The company will also secure many more contracts in its specialty in the upcoming large and ambitious power development program in Saudi Kingdom.
The Contract signing ceremony was held at Riyadh the other day. H.E. Ali Saleh Al-Baraq, President, Saudi Electric Company (SEC) and Mr. Muhammad Ajaz Malik, Managing Director, National Power Construction Corporation represented their respective organizations. Mr. Muhammad Naeem Khan, Pakistan Ambassador to the Kingdom, was also present. ENDS.
