National Disaster Management Authority attends consultative meetings on pre-monsoon preparedness and contingency planning for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas

Islamabad, May 16, 2014 (PPI-OT): As part of annual monsoon preparedness, NDMA is holding consultative meetings in collaboration with all the provincial/ regional departments to review pre-monsoon preparedness and contingency planning for upcoming monsoon season at provincial/regional levels.

In this regard, the meeting was held at Civil Secretariat Committee Room, Peshawar where Secretary Relief and Rehabilitation KPK (Aurangzeb) along with DG KP (Muhammad Tahir Aurakzai) briefed on the level of preparedness and planning with regard to Monsoon Contingency Planning.

The meeting was followed by a high level meeting held at FATA Secretariat, Peshawar where Additional Chief Secretary FATA (Arbab Muhammad Arif) and DG FDMA (Arshad Khan) briefed NDMA officials. The first meeting in this regards has already been held on 30th April 2014 in Lahore which was chaired by the Chief Secretary Punjab.

The participants of the meetings included Chairman NDMA Major General Muhammad Saeed Aleem, Member Ops NDMA, Brig Mirza Kamran Zia, provincial Secretaries, officials from Line Departments and other officers from NDMA and PDMA.

During the meetings, detailed presentations were made by all concerned on the pre monsoon contingency planning / preparedness and appraised on the initiatives/measures undertaken to avoid any unforeseen situation and to ensure safety of life, property and infrastructure during monsoon season.

These meetings are prequel to National Conference on Monsoon Preparedness and Contingency Planning that will be organized by NDMA to incorporate inputs from all relevant Disaster Management Authorities including Federal Agencies as well concerned agencies of UN and INGOs in the Annual Contingency Plan of NDMA 2014.
