National assembly standing committee on defence visits naval headquarters

Islamabad, August 26, 2016 (PPI-OT): Members of National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence headed by Chairman Mr. Sheikh Rohail Asghar visited Naval Headquarters today. The Committee members were briefed on contemporary security challenges in the region and Pakistan Navy’s role in safeguarding country’s maritime interests and nation building. Committee was also apprised about PN’s strategic and developmental plans to protect maritime interests of Pakistan in the context of CPEC and Gwadar port project. After the briefing, an interactive session was held between the members of National Assembly Standing Committee and Flag Officers.

The Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence expressed his satisfaction over PN’s operational and developmental plans which have been formulated to safeguard Pakistan’s maritime interests. The Committee members, while acknowledging PN efforts to improve operational readiness in addition to nation building, made a special note on increased responsibilities of Pakistan Navy pertaining to CPEC and Gwadar port project. The Committee showed satisfaction over the preparedness of Pakistan Navy and appreciated PN’s contributions towards nation building and initiatives for socio-economic uplift of coastal belt of Pakistan.
