National Assembly special committee on Energy Crises meets

Islamabad, January 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Meeting of the Special Committee on Energy Crises was held on 7th Jan, 2013 in the Committee Room No.2, Parliament House, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Engineer Usman Khan Taraki, MNA to discuss the following agenda:-

i) Briefing/discussion on implementation of Committee’s recommendations made so far;

ii) Briefing/discussion on steps taken for alleviation of Power shortage alongwith results and future strategy;

iii) Briefing/discussion on ongoing Hydel Power Projects;

iv) Briefing/discussion on existing Power Generation capacity and short-fall;

v) Any other item with permission of the Chair.

As per agenda the MoW and P gave the presentation on the Hydle Power Projects alongwith its power generation’s present and future plan / development. The Committee was also briefed about the billing, collections and %age of recovery since Jul-Nov.2012 VS Jul-Nov. 2011.

The second presentation was also given to the Special Committee on Energy Crises by PPIB regarding the Hydro Power Projects in Private Sector. The Committee directed to the MoW and P to avoid unannounced load shedding.

The Committee also expressed grave concern regarding the energy projects those are not going to complete in spite of the funds have been allocated for the same. In this regard the Committee directed to complete these projects on urgent basis.

The Special Committee has constituted a Sub-Committee to examine “The cash shortfall about the energy crises. The meeting was attended by MNAs, Ms. Bushra Gohar, Nawab Muhammad Yusuf Talpur, Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Mufti Ajmal Khan, Dr. Ayatullah Durrani and Mr. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi and Senior Officials of Ministry of Water and Power, PPIB, PEPCO, LESCO, HESCO and NEPRA.
