National Assembly House and Library Committee takes note of increase of theft Cases in Parliament Lodges

Islamabad, March 05, 2013 (PPI-OT): The National Assembly House and Library Committee has expressed its dissatisfaction over the security arrangements at Parliament Lodges and directed the ICT Police Department to beef up the security measures at the Lodges. It also expressed it annoyance over lethargy of Police Personnel in checking increased trend of theft cases in the Parliament Lodges. The Committee met under the Chairpersonship of Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker, National Assembly in Parliament House, today.
It was brought into the notice of the committee that security cameras installed in Parliament Lodges were not functioning properly and security guards deputed in the various blocks of the Parliament Lodges have been removed.

The Committee directed the DIG, ICT Police to take appropriate measures to control the theft cases in the Parliament Lodges and ensure foolproof security to the Parliamentarians residing in the Parliament Lodges. The committee also directed the CDA to make necessary arrangements for repair of security cameras installed at Parliament Lodges.

The Committee also expressed its displeasure over the erection of barriers/ obstructions causing blockage of roads in front of Marriot and Serena Hotels and use of green belts/open space in their vicinity as a parking. The Chairman, CDA informed the Committee that notices of cancellation of NOC have been issued to the Management of said Hotels. He assured the Committee that green belt/open spaces used by those Hotels as parking will be vacated soon.

The latest position of the National Assembly Employees Cooperative Housing Society (NAECHS) was also came under discussion. The Committee directed Administrator of NAECHS to expedite the process of acquiring NOC from CDA so that the allotment of plots to the Members of the Society could be actualized. The Committee also directed CDA Management to facilitate the NAECHS Administration in completion the formalities.

MNAs Mehreen Anwar Raja Advocate, Mrs. Belum Hasnain, Mr. Noor Alam Khan and Mrs. Shagufta Sadiq attended the meeting. Special Secretary Cabinet, Chairman, CDA and DIG Police Islamabad were also present
