National Accountability Bureau’s awareness and prevention campaign

Islamabad, June 20, 2016 (PPI-OT):Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB has said that NAB is mandated to carry out Awareness and Prevention functions against corruption in pursuance of Section 33C of National Accountability Ordinance (NAO). Under NAB’s awareness and prevention proactive media campaign across the country, NAB has been engaging different Governmental, Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil Society, media and other segments of society on its campaign on “SAY NO TO CORRUPTION” which has started yielding positive results in order to aware people about the ill effects of corruption across the country.

He said as per the feedback received from various segments of society, NAB’s Awareness and Prevention campaign on “SAY NO TO CORRUPTION” had been effectively and positively highlighted in print and electronic media throughout the country which has appreciated by all segments of society. He said that NAB’s effective and proactive media campaign on awareness and prevention campaign will continue during 2016 with its full swing. He said that NAB during 2015 has taken following efforts under its Awareness and Prevention Campaign on “SAY NO TO CORRUPTION” across the country. The detail is as under:-

a. Due to NAB’s efforts, on all ATM machines of all scheduled Banks carry NAB’s message “Say No to Corruption” across the country in order to aware people about the ill effects of corruption.

b. NAB has organized a national Seminar on World Anti-Corruption Day 2015 at Aiwan Sadr, Islamabad which was chaired by the Honorable President of Pakistan and participated Diplomats, Civil Society representatives, Senior Government Officers and media. Besides Seminar at Aiwan Sadr, NAB has also organized a walk at Aiwan-Sadr which was led by the Honorable President of Pakistan in which people from all walks of life participated and join hands with NAB in its awareness campaign to “Say No to Corruption”.

d. NAB and UNODC have organized a seminar at Marriott Hotel, Islamabad which was chaired by the President of Pakistan. He appreciated NAB’s Awareness and Prevention Campaign and assured his fullest support in NAB’s campaign against corruption across the country.

e. NAB and PILDAT had organized a seminar at Serena Hotel, Islamabad which was widely attended people from all walks of life especially from Civil Society, media, Diplomats and join hands with NAB in its national awareness campaign against corruption.

f. NAB and WAPDA have organized a seminar at WAPDA house Lahore, which was attended by prominent Journalists, writers and people from all walks of life and join hands with NAB in its national awareness campaign against corruption.

g. NAB and Higher Education Commission (HEC) have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for creating awareness amongst students of various Universities. Due to this collaboration, 20m, thousands Character Building Societies have been established in various Universities and Colleges across the country.

h. NAB has collaborated with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Due to this reason, Pakistan Cricket Team joined NAB through message on “Say No to Corruption” before leaving for ICC World Cup 2015.

i. NAB and Pakistan Hockey Team joined NAB on its message *“*Say No to Corruption”.

j. NAB and SNGPL, IESCO, LESCO, GEPCO, FESCO and K-Electric join hands to print NAB message on “Say No to Corruption*”* from their platform in order to disseminate awareness about the ill effects of corruption. IESCO and other organizations have started printing NAB message “Say No to Corruption” on electricity bills and Gas bills from February 2015.

m. NAB, in collaboration with Pakistan Post, has specially designed and formally issued a commemorative stamp with slogan “Say No to Corruption” to mark the World Anti-Corruption Day which an historic achievement.

n. NAB, in collaboration with Islamabad Traffic Police has started printing NAB message “Say No to Corruption” on all driving licenses.

o. NAB in Collaboration with PTA has disseminated NAB message “Say No to Corruption*”* to all mobile phone subscribers across the country through different mobile phone companies at the eve of World Anti-Corruption Day in order to have awareness about the ill effects of corruption.

p. NAB in Collaboration with PIA is highlighting NAB message “Say No to Corruption*”* in all flights of PIA in country and aboard. NAB’s initiative was appreciated by all passengers travelling through PIA in a very positive way.

q. NAB in Collaboration with Pakistan Film Censor Board continuously being aired NAB’s video message on “Say No to Corruption*”* in all Cinema Houses of the country after the National Anthem. NAB’s this initiative has been appreciated by the public at large in order to aware people about the ill effects of corruption.

r. Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination decided to join hands with NAB to print NAB message “Say NO to Corruption” on all cigarette packs across the country.

s. NAB has proposed Motorway Police to join hands with NAB in its awareness campaign and disseminate pamphlets carrying NAB message “Say No to Corruption” among the travellers on all motorways across the country.

t. NAB has proposed CDA to join hands with NAB in its awareness campaign and display bill boards carrying NAB message “Say No to Corruption” on the main tourist sites of Islamabad such as Daman-e-Koh, Shakar Pariyah, Zero Point and Hill on express way to Airport.

u. NAB and Islamabad Police join hands by displaying NAB message “Say No to Corruption” on all the police stations.

v. NAB message “Say No to Corruption” is being printed on all government tenders issued for publication in newspapers in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan.

w. Standees with NAB message “Say No to Corruption” have been displayed at the entrance points of Marriott Hotel, Islamabad, Serena Hotel, Islamabad, Islamabad Airport and major shopping malls in order to aware people at large about the ill effects of corruption.

The Chairman NAB, Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has said that NAB is committed to eradicate corruption from the country across the board by adopting Zero Tolerance Policy against Corruption. He said that NAB’s Anti-corruption campaign is carried widely for awareness and prevention of corruption besides enforcement across the board during 2015 which will continue in the year 2016.

He said that NAB hopes that joint efforts of all stakeholders can collaborate to check corruption and corrupt practices before happening with the help of all stakeholders, civil society, media and people at large. He said recent report of Transparency International rated Pakistan in Corruption Perception Index (CPI) from 126 to 117 which is a great achievement for Pakistan due to NAB’s efforts. Similarly, PILDAT report also supports the position stated above as 42% people trusted NAB against other related government departments.

He said that NAB had chalked out a comprehensive National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) for eradication of corruption and corrupt practices throughout the country. NAB works according to National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999, which empowers it to act against those who are involved in the corruption and corrupt practices.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered approximately Rs. 276 billion since its inception and deposited in national exchequer which is also a great achievement. He said the hard work being put in by all ranks of NAB staff in an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism, where fight against corruption is being taken as a national duty. Increase in the number of complaints also reflects enhanced public trusted in the NAB.
