Islamabad: Chairman Senate Mr. Farooq H. Naek has underlined the need for further strengthening bilateral cooperation and consolidating the bond of friendship between Pakistan and Afghanistan through frequent Parliamentary exchanges and people to people contacts for mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries as they share common culture, history and religion. He expressed that the two sides must work in unison to cement bilateral ties.
He expressed these views in a meeting with 12-member Afghan Parliamentary Delegation which called on him at the Parliament House today. The Delegation was led by Fazl-e-Hadi Muslimyar, President of Meshrano Jirga of the Afghan Parliament.
Chairman Senate observed that proactive role of the Parliamentarians of Pakistan and Afghanistan is essential to work out and implement effective strategies with regard to eradication of the menace of terrorism in both the countries.
“Peace, security and stability in Afghanistan has a vital link with peace and tranquillity in Pakistan”, Mr. Naek Added. He further stated that an independent, peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan and region.
Regarding peace process, the Chairman Senate said that Pakistan fully supports reconciliation and peace talks and negotiated settlement of Afghan issue and there was a consensus among all the political parties to give peace a chance.
He also said that Pakistan believes in policy of non-interference and it was the corner stone of our foreign policy. Sustainable peace in Afghanistan can lead to sustainable peace in Pakistan for ultimate progress and prosperity of both the countries.
Mr. Naek said the visit will further improve and strengthen ties between the two countries. He noted with satisfaction that both the countries have witnessed improvement in their ties since establishment of a democratic regime in Pakistan.
Leader of the Afghan Delegation Mr.Fazl-e-Hadi Musilamyar, reciprocating the gestures said that they are pleased to visit the brotherly country like Pakistan, adding that relations between the two would be strengthened further as a result of this visit.
He said that there are a lot of common challenges, however, expressed the confidence that both the countries will overcome these difficulties and move forward on the road to progress. Muslimyar also expressed his sincere condolences over the loss of lives in a recent attack by NATO forces. He sympathized with the government, people of Pakistan and bereaved families.
President of the Meshrano Jirga said we appreciate Pakistan’s support during Afghan Jihad against soviet forces as well as catering for millions of Afghan refugees. He added that we are mindful of Pakistan’s assistance in areas of reconstruction and rehabilitation since the establishment elected Afghan Government.
He sought more cooperation in the field of Education, Health and rehabilitation work and observed that Parliaments of both the countries should come forward to create understanding and further strengthen cooperation in different fields.
He thanked the Chairman Senate for a warm welcome and hospitality and extended an invitation to the Chairman Senate to visit Afghanistan for generating deep understanding and seeking further cooperation.
Senators Salim Saifullah Khan, Saeeda Iqbal, Hafiz Rashid Ahmed and Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi besides Secretary Senate Iftikharullah Babar were also present on the occasion. It is pertinent to mention here that the Afghan Delegation, on invitation of the Chairman Senate Mr. Farooq H. Naek, is currently on a four day official visit to Pakistan.
Later, the Chairman Senate hosted a reception in honour of the visiting Afghan delegation. Leader of the house in the Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and large number of Senators attended the reception.
On the occasion, the Chairman Senate said “Pakistan deeply values its fraternal ties with Afghanistan. The destinies of the two countries are inextricably linked. Peace in Afghanistan will enable both nations to serve as a bridge for trade and commerce between Central Asia, South Asia and beyond.”
He stated that Pakistan has always and devoured to build upon historic ties with Afghanistan on the basis of sovereign equality and respect for each other’s territorial integrity. “Our brotherly relations have undergone qualitative transformation marked by growing trade and people to people interaction and that marks a new era in our relation”, Mr. Naek added.
