Karachi, November 09, 2016 (PPI-OT): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad has said that village electrification and gasification was on his priority. “I am working hard to generate electricity through renewable and coal-based projects and simultaneously working to provide electricity and gas to villages.” This he said while presiding over a meeting on village electrification and gasification.
Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) Mohammad Waseem briefing the chief minister said that Rs1300 million has been allocated for village electrification during the current financial year. The Sindh government has released Rs1 billion to the energy department which has onward released Rs272.94 million to SEPCO to provide electricity to 247 small villages. The Hesco has also been given Rs 253.33 million for electrification of 175 schemes.
The chief minister directed Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) to take up the issues of village electrification with concerned authorities so that villagers would be facilitated by providing them electricity. The chief minister was also briefed that Rs1.2 billion have been allocated for village gasification. There are 88 schemes. The chief minister also issued directives to follow the SSGC for gasification. “Our village women are still using traditional stove in which wood and dung is burnt for cooking food. Now it becomes out duty to get them rid of old system and provide them gas to cook food on gas stoves,” he said.
