Islamabad: A delegation lead by Dr. Rinchen, Director General South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children (SAIEVAC) called on Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo and Pakistan’s Goodwill Ambassador for the Orphan Children Ms. Jahan Ara Wattoo in Islamabad. Special Assistant to Prime Minister Ms. Shahnaz Wazir Ali, MD Pakistan Baitu-ul-Mal Mr. Zamrud Khan, Secretary and other high officials of the Ministry of Human Rights were also present in the meeting.
Dr. Rinchen briefed the participants on the initiatives taken by the SAIEVAC to end the violence against the children in the region. He said that it is international obligation under the UN that we should eliminate discrimination and violence against the children in the South Asian region.
Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo told the Dr. Rinchen about the Government of Pakistan’s efforts for the uplift of orphan children and said that our Sweet Homes Project under the MD of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mall is an exemplary project wherein more than 3000 orphan children, who lost their parents in various natural calamities, are living. He told Mr. Rinchen that free quality education, boarding and lodging facilities are provided to the children in these schools and home like environment is provided to them. He also told the DG SAIEVAC about Aamir Begum Welfare Trust and Schools run under the Trust.
Dr. Rinchen appreciated the services of Ms. Jahan Ara Wattoo in the social sector and said that the SAIEVAC has appointed her the first Regional Advisor of SAARC to the SAIEVAC. He hoped that Ms. Jahan Ara Wattoo will take lead in the cause to protect the children against violence and this will also motivate and sensitize other people to come forward for this noble cause. “The future of the South Asian Region depends upon the quality of life opportunities we provide to our children.” he stressed.
Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Ms. Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Zumard Khan and other participants congratulated Ms. Jahan Ara Wattoo on the appointment as Regional Advisor of SAIEVAC.
