Lahore, May 03, 2016 (PPI-OT):Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the development of school education. He said that teachers’ training programme is an important element of educational reforms roadmap as it is vital for quality education. He said that schools reforms programme is yielding positive results. He said that steps taken by the government are helping in raising the standard of education in the province. He said that Pakistan’s future depends upon education. He said that education and health are top priorities of the government and maximum resources will be provided for the development of these sectors.
He was presiding over a high level meeting, here today, which discussed matters regarding improvement of school education, teachers’ training, promotion of IT and others issues. The meeting lasted for four hours. The Chief Minister said that Punjab government is paying attention to provision of missing facilities in schools and billions of rupees are being spent for this purpose. He said that it is necessary to polish the creative abilities of the students. He said that use of modern technology can help in raising the teaching standards.
He said that IT labs have been set up in high schools at a cost of billions of rupees. Shahbaz Sharif further said that laptops have been given to brilliant girl and boy students under a transparency policy and now a programme has been evolved to distribute tablets among the students of high schools. He said that the future of the country is linked with quality education and it is necessary to impart modern knowledge to the young generation.
He said that children working on brick kilns have been enrolled in schools and elimination of child labour from hotels, workshops and petrol pumps is next target of the government. The Chief Minister further said that commitment, determination and hard work are essential for achieving educational targets.
Secretary Schools Education gave a detailed briefing on the measures for the promotion of quality education. Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Chairman Punjab Education Foundation Engineer Qamar-ul-Islam, Chief Secretary, concerned secretaries, educationists and other senior officers were present while Chairman Planning and Development attended the meeting through video link.
