February 02, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities, today, put
under detention Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Ashraf
Sehrai in their houses and Mukhtar Ahmed Waza in a police station on the eve of
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s visit to the territory, tomorrow. The
move is aimed at preventing the leaders from leading anti-India demonstrations
on Modi’s visit.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and
Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for complete shutdown in occupied Kashmir,
tomorrow, to register protest against the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to the
territory. Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit occupied Kashmir, tomorrow, and
lay the foundation stones of several projects.
Umar Farooq in a tweet, today, said that ahead of Narendra Modi’s visit, the
authoritarian state had pressed panic buttons and tightened control as cordon
and search operations were conducted even in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar. “Ahead
of Narendra Modi visit, panic buttons pressed by the authoritarian state and
control tightened as searches and CASO conducted even in Lal Chowk. Today
morning I was put under house arrest,” he wrote. Meanwhile, the authorities
also placed former member of the so-called Kashmir Assembly, Engineer Abdur
Rasheed, under house arrest.
