Mirwaiz seeks OIC’s stronger role in Kashmir settlement

Srinagar, November 24, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to play a stronger role in the peaceful resolution of the Kashmiri dispute.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar described the OIC as the only major international organisation that wholeheartedly supported the Kashmiris’ struggle for right to self-determination. He said that the OIC had to play a very important role, as it had not really served the purpose for which it was created.

The Mirwaiz said that the OIC had been unable to open channels of communication with India. He said that India had repeatedly denied the OIC fact-finding team on Kashmir a permission to enter occupied Kashmir.

The fact-finding team, he said, was formed three years ago by the OIC to visit both parts of Jammu and Kashmir and see what was going on, but never got a visa to enter the occupied territory. He said, the OIC has to find a way to interact with India.

The APHC Chairman also appreciated Turkey for strongly supporting the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
