Mirwaiz, Gilani call for shutdown in IHK on Jan 26

Srinagar, January 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, have called for complete shutdown in occupied Kashmir on the 26th January, the Indian Republic Day. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq presiding over a meeting of the APHC Executive Council in Srinagar, today, appealed the Kashmiri people to observe complete shutdown on the day to convey to the world that the promises made to the Kashmiris be fulfilled.

The meeting was attended among others by Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Masroor Abbas Ansari, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Musaddiq Aadil and Khaleel Muhammad Khaleel.

The leaders said that Kashmir dispute was the root cause of all issues between Pakistan and India and its settlement was essential for defusing the political uncertainty in the region. They castigated a section of Indian media for its unrealistic reporting on the border tensions between the two countries.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that India had no moral or constitutional right to celebrate its Republic Day as it had illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He deplored that New Delhi had never honoured its word of holding plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir to allow the Kashmiri people to decide their future by themselves.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing a separate meeting of his party, Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee, and Syed Ali Gilani in a statement paid glowing tributes to over fifty Kashmiris who were martyred by Indian troops in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21, 1990. They said that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs would not be allowed to go waste.

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, at a party meeting and other Hurriyet leaders including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Azam Inqilabi and Javed Ahmed Mir in their statements eulogised the sacrifices of Gaw Kadal martyrs.

A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement visited Srinagar Central Jail and met with the illegally detained Kashmiris. Talking to media after the visit, the delegation members said that the detainees were not being provided with basic facilities.
