Mirwaiz condemns Mehbooba Mufti for trying to gag media

Srinagar, June 07, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of his own Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has deplored that after placing restrictions on the movement of pro-freedom leadership, the BJP-PDP regime is intimidating media to refrain it from highlighting the problems faced by the Kashmiri people.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a tweet, wrote that after caging the entire pro-freedom leadership in the name of peace, Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP administration was now trying to gag media as well. “What a shame!” he wrote.

“Real peace cannot be achieved by stifling the political freedom and liberty of the Hurriyet leadership and placing curbs on their movement,” the Hurriyet forum said in a statement issued in Srinagar. It asked India and Pakistan to initiate dialogue and involve the Kashmiri resistance leadership with it for the permanent settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

The forum also condemned the continued house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq terming it as politics of revenge. “The Mirwaiz family, besides discharging its political duties, had been, for generations, rendering service in the religious field through sermons and discourse and thus spreading the message of Islam in Kashmir. With the onset of the holy month of Ramadan, the continued house arrest of the Mirwaiz would practically stop him from discharging his religious responsibility as Mirwaiz which amounts to interference into religious affairs and religious freedom of the Muslims of Kashmir,” it added.

Denouncing the continued house arrest of Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Shahid-ul-Islam and detention of Engineer Hilal Ahmad War and house arrest of a number of resistance leaders and activists, the statement said that such aggressive tactics could not suppress the Kashmiris’ resolve to carry forward the ongoing freedom movement.
