The News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan on Thursday broadcast day-long transmission to mark the National Day of Minorities, which was observed across the country.
The objective of observing the day was to pay tribute to the valuable services rendered by minorities for creation of Pakistan and their subsequent contribution in nation building.
Speaking in a programme of Radio Pakistan in connection with the day, renowned Human Rights Activist and Young Peace builder Jayaa Jaggi underlined the need of making joint efforts to safeguard minorities’ rights and their well-being. She said all minorities in Pakistan are free to practice their religion in lines with the constitution of Pakistan and vision of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
She also lauded the role being played by minorities in different fields, especially in the fields of education, health and social welfare. Jayaa Jaggi urged the government to initiate different programmes for welfare of minorities especially the youth minorities, and take steps to resolve challenges being faced by them. She said Pakistan is land of peace, which guarantees protection to people of different religions and non-Muslims.
In his remarks, Ahban Aasi, Gazetted Government Officer and Youth Activist said that 11th August is celebrated as Minorities’ Day in Pakistan to acknowledge the invaluable contribution made by minorities for country’s development and to reaffirm commitment to safeguard their rights.
He said Pakistan was constituted on name of freedom, and religious minorities, including Christians, are playing crucial role in national development. He said Pakistan is a peace-loving nation, and wants to forge peaceful relations with all its neighbours. He said churches and religious sites of minorities are safe in Pakistan.
Taking part in the discussion, Musician and social activist Joshua Gill said hearts of all Pakistanis beat together with minorities. He said many renowned Christian musicians enlightened Pakistan’s name at global level and their services are being acknowledged in different fields, including music industry.
