Islamabad, March 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): Apropos a news item published in a section of press today, referring to Interior Ministry’s not attending the meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Interior, Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior has regretted that the news was published without knowing the Ministry of Interior’s preoccupation with other matters of prime importance.
The Spokesman clarified that under the rules, meetings of National Assembly and Senate Standing Committees take place with the consent of the concerned Ministry.
He said the Ministry of Interior has been extremely busy these days with various matters including security related issues, preparation of National Internal Security Policy, F-8 District Court incident along with regular appearances in Supreme Court, Islamabad High Court as well as Judicial Commission. Above all, the Ministry has been directly involved in the state visit of the King of Bahrain.
He said Secretary Interior had duly conveyed to the Senate Secretariat on 17th of March requesting that the “Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control may convene its meeting every two months,” and the Minister for Interior will be available to respond to questions in the Parliament which has been always given highest priority by Ministry of Interior.”
The Spokesman said that Ministry takes Standing Committees’ meetings very seriously and preparation for them takes days if not weeks, while present law and order situation demands constant vigilance and attention of officers of the Ministry of Interior.
He regretted that Senate Secretariat did not pay heed to the Ministry’s request and the meeting was convened right in the middle of a very important state visit.
