Islamabad, April 26, 2014 (PPI-OT): Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar stressed the need for practical work for ensuring 100% coverage of vaccination in the country. Vaccinators are frontline force of the EPI program and we cannot achieve any success without their support.
She said this while addressing as Chief Guest at the Vaccinators Convention. This convention was organized by CDA in connection with World Immunization Day from 24th to 30th April, 2014 across the globe.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion the Minister said Immunization is the most cost-effective public health intervention that has had the greatest impact on health of the people. Every year millions of children around the globe are saved from illness or death because of vaccines.
The Minister said that we are proud of our vaccinators as they are the change catalyst of our society and they are not only providing immunization services but also educating the community about the importance of the Immunization Services in the country.
The Minister of Health added that a role of vaccinators and lady health workers is vital in a sense as they represent the community and they have access where we cannot go. She said that Federal Government provides 100% vaccines but coverage of vaccination remains very low this situation requires us concrete efforts and practical work in the field.
The Minister said that in order to ensure transparency in vaccination strict monitoring and audit of quarterly funds will be done before issuing next quarterly funds. She said even Nigeria, Bangladesh and Nepal are going ahead but unfortunately today where we stand.
She said that vaccination of all areas including 17 slums and Kachi Abadies of Islamabad should be done on priority basis and there will be zero tolerance in this regard and I will personally monitor vaccination of Kachi Abadies.Vaccinators apprised the Minister of the issues and challenges faced by them.
Later on MoS Saira Afzal Tarar visited Operation Room of CDA Health Directorate .She directed Health Director of CDA to go in the field and asked him to monitor all vaccination campaigns by going in the field. Earlier Chief Commissioner Islamabad addressed Vaccinator convention and assured support in solving Service Structure problems of Vaccinators.
