Islamabad, August 20, 2015 (PPI-OT): We need to reinforce the spirit of national unity and harmony that was witnessed during the 1965 war. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for IB and NH said this while chairing a meeting regarding the preparations for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Defence Day. “During the 1965 war every Pakistani stood as one nation regardless of ethnic or religious affinities to thwart the aggressive designs of India. The same spirit is the need of the hour today”, he said.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid also underlined the need to raise awareness among the citizens about the resolve of the entire nation that resulted in the defeat of the enemy despite the large contingent as well as resources. He emphasized to highlight the heroic tales of those heroes and benefactors who sacrificed their precious lives to protect the honour and dignity of the motherland. The enemy committed an overt act of aggression in 1965 by crossing and violating the internationally recognized border and its aggression is still continuing in another covert form, the Minister added.
The Minister stressed upon the officials to promote a message of a unified courageous nation, filled with the spirit of sacrifice. He further urged media to highlight the significance of the defence day in a befitting manner with national zeal and reverence to pay tribute to the martyrs and Ghazis.
The meeting also discussed various proposals about commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the defence day. Information Minister directed the concerned departments of the Ministry of IB and NH to formalize their proposals and recommendations with reference to the holding of various events and programs at earliest and submit report accordingly.
Pervaiz Rashid also underscored the need to highlight the role of the poets, intellectuals, artists, musicians and singers who not only injected a new zeal and spirit among the soldiers but also promoted a sense of unity in the country at the time of war.
The meeting was attended by DG-ISPR, Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa, Ms. Saba Mohsin Raza, Additional Secretary, M/o IB and NH, Muhammad Malick, MD PTV, Syed Muhammad Imran Gardezi, DG-Radio, Rao Tehsin Ali khan, PIO and other senior officers of the Ministry.
