Karachi, August 24, 2016 (PPI-OT):Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani has said that the Government is decided to establish an Advisory Council to implement the facilitation and securing sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in this regard concrete steps would be taken accordingly.
This he said while addressing at the inaugural session of the Two Day National Seminar on “Implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries” organized by Pakistan Fisher Folk Forum and World Forum of Fisher People held at local Hotel here today.
The Minister Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani said that the government will interact with all stakeholders and consult with them to proper implement the voluntary guidelines for securing sustainable small scale fisheries. He said that every month, progress will be reviewed accordingly to facilitate the Small scale Fisheries as they are below the poverty line.
He said that to alleviate their living standard and betterment of small scale fisheries to implement the voluntary guidelines and resolve their genuine grievances and problems on permanent basis by inter acted and join hands of all stakeholders.
The Minister Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani, while talking to media-men, after inauguration of the seminar replied the questions about facilitation of fishermen and fisheries related issues, he said that we are in process of legislations and the department send legislation to the Assembly after waiting the legislation, it would be implemented accordingly to resolve the problems of small scale fisheries and fisheries sector on priority basis.
He further said that to generate more income and export of fisheries at high level, feed and size of fish will also be decided likewise others, mafia in fisheries sector would also be ended. Due to ban for two months over fishing no harm to anyone but it was beneficial and relief to the fishermen, If they had any issue or problem in this regard, it would be resolved accordingly for the benefit of fishermen on priority.
Earlier the Chairman Pakistan Fisher Folk Forum Muhammad Ali Shah while giving his detailed presentation over the implementation of the voluntary guidelines for securing sustainable small scale fisheries said that not only the government single handedly but all stakeholders would collectively work for it in a better way. Since 2008 to 2015 steps were taken to implement the policy.
In June 2014, it was approved by FAO as International law by the member countries by cooperation and join hands. He said that Small-Scale Fisheries by the support of FAO to achieve the desired results. Percipients of Civil Society including Jamil Junejo, Tahira Ali Shah and others also spoke the seminar.
