Islamabad, August 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan is an emerging Halal food hub and this is the right time to capture the international halal products market worth US3 trillion dollars by making industry compliant to international standards and boosting up halal sector.
Chairman Punjab Halal Development Agency (PHDA) Justice ® Khalil ur Rehman Khan said this during his meeting with Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid, today.
Both discussed the progress regarding Halal Regulatory and Development Authority and halal food products and to compliant them of international requirements.
The Minister said there is strong need of developing standards and enacting a law to make our Halal products which will boost our export especially in Middle East and Europe.
He added “We need Halal professionals because globalization of food trade and increased consumer awareness regarding food safety standards contribute towards new demands for halal, healthy and hygienic food”.
The Minister said ‘Pakistan possesses all imperative elements for Halal products’ production and we have to streamline them at par the demand of the target community.
The Minister said that inter-ministerial meeting would be convened to expedite the progress on Halal Regulatory and Development Authority and take steps to foster halal industry of Pakistan.
Mr, Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar, Federal sectary for Science and Technology was also present in the meeting.
