Islamabad: Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan) has made phenomenal progress in recent years to protect intellectual property assets in Pakistan. Transformation of dynamics of business assets from the tangible to intangible in today’s knowledge-based economy urges the emerging economies to promote the culture of creativity to gain access to the quality conscious consumers.
The World Intellectual Property Day, 2012 provides unique opportunity to motivate people to exert all their energies to develop tradition of creativity and innovation, prevent brain drain from the country and to sensitize the nation about intellectual property rights of others. Protection of intellectual property rights ensures availability of branded and quality products to the consumers and prohibits trading of fake and substandard goods.
Pakistan has integrated system of IP under an autonomous organization in the Federal Government. IPO Ordinance has been promulgated to provide impetus to policy formulation, enforcement of IP laws and creating awareness in the country. The Federal Government will continue to support the organizational and legal framework in the country for enforcement of IP rights.
It is my firm conviction that IPO-Pakistan, with the support of the Federal Government, will introduce a mechanism in the country by fostering innovation and creativity for protection of intellectual assets.
I would strongly urge all the stakeholders of Intellectual Property to join hands with the Government to make this important event of World Intellectual Property Day, 2012 a resounding success.
