Islamabad: International Day of Older Persons, being observed in the world today, raises awareness about the rights of senior citizens in society. This day highlights the importance of the older persons in our social and family set-ups.
They are beacon of light for the younger generation who can learn a lot from their experience. We owe them our respect as a token of our gratitude because our parents and grandparents play immensely important role in shaping our careers. It is incumbent upon the present-day generations to uphold their legacy and continuity.
Our great religion, Islam, puts special emphasis on the respect and dignity of the elderly. It ordains its followers to extend extreme amount of care, respect and love to the older persons. Our societal values and cultural traditions also obligate us to be mindful of the rights of the elderly persons.
The government of Pakistan is committed in working out policies for the welfare of the older persons. It is by enhancing their status in society and living standards that we can feel emotionally, morally and spiritually satisfied. Let us, on this day; pledge to work for the welfare of our senior citizens as a mark of respect and gratitude to them.
