Islamabad, October 23, 2012 (PPI-OT): On the occasion of the first death anniversary of Maadr-i-Jamhoriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto, the workers of Pakistan People’s Party, democratic forces and the nation at large pay homage to her for her relentless struggle for the cause of democracy and women rights. The former first lady was an iconic figure who became a symbol of resistance against the dictatorial forces.
Following the martyrdom of her husband and the first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the Maadr-i-Jamhooriat braved the rigours and persecution of the dictatorial regime on the one hand and also continued to be a source of inspiration to the party’s workers on the other.
Going by the sacrifices and contributions the Maadr-i-Jamhooriat rendered for the cause of democracy, it is hard to find a woman of her stature who suffered so much but still remained steadfast and resolute in the struggle for people’s empowerment, rule of law, democracy and constitutionalism.
As we observe the Maadr-i-Jamhooriat first death anniversary today, the best way to pay tributes to her memory is to make sure that the country continues to march on the path of democracy. On this day, let us re-dedicate ourselves to fulfill her ideals and strengthen democracy in the country.
