Islamabad, November 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): Today the world is celebrating the Universal Children Day to create awareness and understanding about protecting the rights of children and promote their welfare. Pakistan is also part of the international efforts with a firm commitment to safeguard the children’s rights.
The violent tendencies among the youth can be attributed to the improper treatment children are receiving from the society. The theme for this year’s Universal Children Day, “Stop violence against children”, rightly stresses the need to protect children from abuse and mistreatment and draws our attention to providing basic safeguards to our children against violence.
The mission of protecting the rights of children and ensuring their welfare calls for a strong partnership between the public and private sectors to work jointly towards the betterment of our future generations. I therefore call upon the government, civil society, the NGOs, media and the corporate sector to join hands and work for ensuring a better future to our children.
While celebrating this Day, let us pledge that we will work together with even greater zeal to end violence and abuse of children and will ensure them an enabling environment where they realize their full potential for a better and prosperous future.
