Islamabad, December 10, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees protection of life and liberty of every citizen regardless of religion, race, creed or colour. Pakistan, being a party to the Core Human Rights Conventions is committed to protect the rights of its citizens. Pakistan has always been among the forefront nations advocating Human Rights in line with our religious teachings. Our tradition of commitment to Human Rights continues in the State policies. The Government of Pakistan is carrying forward an agenda for substantial reforms, which will have a salutary impact on the lives of its people.
The present democratically elected Government, following the footsteps of its leaders is putting its best towards promotion and protection of Human Rights in Pakistan. It is essential, particularly in presence of certain extremist elements which can deprive our brothers, sisters and children of their fundamental rights as human beings.
Ministry of Human Rights is mandated to review Human Rights situation in the country including implementation of policies, laws and measures. It is also required to take initiatives for harmonization of legislation, regulations and practices with the international human rights Covenants and Agreements to which Pakistan is a party, and to monitor their implementation.
I assure that the present Government is fully committed to implement the Human Rights agenda by protecting rights of its citizens. I invite the civil society and all stakeholders to come forward and play their role in realizing the dream of making Pakistan a country free from abuse and exploitation and violence against women.
