Message from President on World Scout Day

Islamabad, February 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): The observance of World Scout Day on 22nd February every year signifies appreciation and recognition of the invaluable services of thousands of young scouts across the world who serves the humanity keeping aside all consideration of blood, race, creed etc.

It is an occasion to pay tribute to the founder of the scouting movement Lord Stephenson Smith Powell and his followers who provided the youth an organized platform to render their services for the welfare of their fellow beings. On this occasion therefore, I wish to commend the entire Scouts fraternity, especially the scouts of Pakistan, for their continued services to the humanity and also for serving as a source of inspiration to the young people.

The real significance and the true purpose of the movement was clearly explained by our Quaid who observed that ‘Scouting can play a very vital role in forming the character of our youth, promoting their physical mental and spiritual development, and making them well disciplined, useful and good citizens.’

Indeed the words of the Founder of the Nation that “If our young people learn to befriend all, to help other people at all times, subordinate personal interest to the welfare of others, eschew violence of thought, word and action” would continue to serve not only as a great source of strength for the movement itself but would remain a great source of inspiration and guidance to all of us in our efforts towards nation-building process.

On this occasion, I would like to appreciate Pakistan Boy Scouts Association for the important role of grooming the future architects of the nation and the country and inculcating a spirit of selfless service among them. I am pleased to know that the Association in addition to holding national events is also hosting events of Asia Pacific Region as well.

These efforts will indeed provide us the opportunities to promote greater interaction among the scouts of the region, sharing our best practices with others and presenting real image of the country before the international community. I have been informed that Pakistan Boy Scouts Association is planning Mega Events like Jamboree and Rover Moot. I appreciate these efforts and assure my support and patronage to this noble movement.

I would also like to express my deep appreciation of the valuable services that our scouts have been rendering for the welfare of their fellow brethren. Indeed their role, commitment towards their duties and adherence to their promise and scout testifies that they are always ready to serve as per their motto “Be Prepared” I wish them all success in their mission to uphold those noble ideals for which the organization came into being.

On this day, I would also call upon the youth and especially the parents to encourage their children to join scouts movement. I hope the educational institutions of the country would continue extending their full support to the promotion of this movement.

I assure Pakistan Boy Scouts Association and all scouts of the country of my full support and patronage towards their noble mission. I wish the scouting movement in general and in Pakistan in particular even greater success and I pray that it may become an important vehicle for promoting peace, progress and harmony in the country.
