Meeting of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources

Islamabad: The meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on “Petroleum and Natural Resources” was held on 27th February, 2012 at 02:00 p.m. in Committee Room No.7 Parliament House, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai, MNA whereas, other members of the Committee Mr. Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Mr. Nawab Ali Wasan, Sh Aftab Ahmed, Rana Afzal Hussain, Mr. Abdul Waseem, Syed Haider Ali Shah and Mohammad Usman were also present.

The Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources briefed the Standing Committee on supply and demand gap of natural gas. He informed the Committee that no significant addition of new gas resources could be introduced due to Law and order situation and in addition of new consumers has increased unchecked demand.

He also proposed few measures to control shortfall like import of gas through pipelines, import of LNG, increase of LPG Air Mix share, increase indigenous gas supplies through better incentives and improving Law and Order. The committee discussed all the strategies one by one.

The committee decided that gas load shedding will be discussed again in other meeting which is going to be held tomorrow at OGDCL house, the committee also decided that a joint meeting will be held with the Chairmen of Standing Committee on Textile industry and with sub Committee of Petroleum and Natural Resources to discuss the proposal submitted by the Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources.

Meeting was ended with vote of thanks from the Hon. Chairman Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai.
