Meeting of heads of allied parties held at Aiwan-e- Sadr

Islamabad, January 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): A meeting of heads of allied parties was held at Aiwan-e- sadr Tuesday night.

The Meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf was attended by former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Senator Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Mr. Mushahid Hussain Syed, Dr. Farooq Sattar , Mr. Babar Ghouri, Mr. Raza Haroon, Mr. Afrasiab Khattak, Haji Muhammad Adeel ,Mr. Munir Khan Orakzai, Mr. Hameedullah Jan Afridi , Senator Abbas Khan Afridi, Mr. Israrullah Zehri, Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Mr. Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira and Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar.

Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting discussed about the forthcoming elections and the caretaker setup in accordance with the constitution. The Spokesperson said that Law Minister Farooq H. Naek was specially summoned to brief the meeting on the constitutional provision relating to the holding of elections and the appointment of care taker setup.

The coalition partners expressed their views on various dimensions of the issues involved.

The meeting expressed the resolve that elections will be held on time and the nomination of care taker setup will be in accordance with the constitution.

Briefing the meeting , Law Minister Farooq H. Naek said that the care taker Prime Minister under the constitution shall be appointed by the President in consultation with the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition in the outgoing National Assembly and in the case o of disagreement within three days of the dissolution of the National Assembly , the Prime Minister and leader of opposition shall forward two nominees each to a committee to be constituted by the speaker of the National Assembly comprising Eight members of the outgoing National Assembly or the Senate or both having equal representation from the treasury and the opposition . The Spokesperson said that after the briefing by the Law minister some tentative discussion also took place on the probable names for the caretaker Prime Minister.

The coalition partners agreed to strengthen their cooperation and have more regular contacts and consultations as the election draw near.

The President also hosted dinner for the participants of the meeting.
