Masarrat Aalam sent to jail on judicial remand

Srinagar, November 10, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a court in Badgam has sent the illegally detained Hurriyet leader and the Vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML), Masarrat Aalam Butt, to jail for ten days on judicial remand.

The JKML General Secretary, Abdul Ahad Parra, in a statement in Srinagar said that Masarrat Aalam Butt was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Badgam in connection with false cases registered against him. He said that the court sent him to Srinagar central jail on 10 days judicial remand.

Abdul Ahad Parra said that Masarrat Aalam was suffering from acute knee pain and the party had applied for his bail, which was rejected by the court. He said that the JKML Vice Chairman had been detained on false charges to break his resolve. However, he said that such tactics could not deter Hurriyet leaders from continuing the just cause.

He appealed to the world human rights organizations to come forward and take steps to provide justice to the illegally detained leader.
