Islamabad: This was said by Mr. Mohd Raziff Embi, Vice President of Malakoff Corporation Berhad , Malaysia who called on the Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar along with a seven member delegation: here today.
The delegation said that they are interested to set up 1200 MW imported Coal Fired Project and 250 MW Wind Power Project in Sindh. Feasibility study of 1200 MW has been completed and the remaining procedure will be completed at the earliest.
The delegation reiterated their commitment to work with government of Pakistan to explore investment opportunities in other infrastructure projects. It also expressed to invest in the Operation and Maintenance plan of the Government for existing public sector thermal plants.
The Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar welcomed the delegation and appreciated their commitment to invest in the power sector. He said that the Govt has decided to announce an upfront tariff for the project based on imported coal and likely to be finalized next month in order to attract investment in this sector for cheaper generation. The Govt has already announced on upfront tariff for Wind Power Projects.
The investors who will avail this upfront tariff for wind project will have to develop the project on fast track basis within a period of 15 months after getting land. The government is processing wind power projects on fast track basis and all the formalities are being completed at the earliest.
He said that Pakistan is facing energy shortages and the Government is taking all the measures to end the crises. Various incentives have been given to the investors and announcement of upfront tariff is part of it. The Minister also directed PPIB and AEDB to facilitate the Malaysians at their end and complete the procedural requirements for early setting up of both the projects.
The delegation also discussed the investment opportunities in Thar Coal projects and expansion policy for imported Coal Fired plants.
