Karachi, November 27, 2012 (PPI-OT): Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan on Monday said the Lyari Expressway will be completed and both the tracks will be fully functional by the end of next year. He was talking to media during his visit to the under-construction portion of Lyari Expressway between Dhobi Ghat and Teen Hati.
The Governor said the construction work on the remaining portion of Lyari Expressway has been started and this year National Highway (NHA) authorities would be provided ‘right of way’ for its completion.
While walking on the under-construction section of the expressway, the Governor directed the concerned authorities to expedite the construction work so that the people could benefit from this important project at the earliest possible.
Commissioner Karachi Hashim Raza Zaidi and Brig. Basim from NHA briefed the Governor on the on-going work on this mega project.
To a media question, Dr.Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan said that around 29,000 families were to be shifted from the site of Lyari Expressway. Most of these families, he said, had been shifted and the remaining would be shifted before end of December 2012.
The shifting of these affected families had been done by meeting all the legal requirements and in a very transparent manner under the supervision of the elected representatives from the respective areas of the city, he said.
The Governor took a serious note of the reports about encroachment emerging once again at different points of the expressway. He asked the Commissioner Karachi to take immediate action in this regard. He directed the NHA authorities to ensure smooth flow of water in Lyari river and complete the plantation on both sides of the river as per master plan of the expressway.
Earlier, the Governor was briefed about the construction of signal-free corridors at Share Quaideen and Teen Hati.
