Karachi, June 29, 2016 (PPI-OT):Provincial minister for local government Jam Khan Shoro said the situation in Karachi after rain was under control as all rain water accumulated on roads has been removed and major corridors were cleared. The municipal staff could be seen functional on city roads. He expressed these views on a visit of different areas of Karachi on Wednesday evening where he was accompanied by KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed, M.D KWSB Misbahuddin Farid, Deputy Commissioner East Asif Jan, Sr. Director Municipal Services Masood Alam, Sr. Director Disaster Management Raza Abbas Rizvi and other officers.
The provincial minister during his visit went to Sharea Faisal, Karsaz, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad, Gharibabad, Nazimabad and other areas to check the situation after rain. The provincial minister said he was personally monitoring dewatering works and any negligence in this connection from officers of municipal organizations will not be tolerated.
He said the advertisement hoardings pertaining to DMCs have been removed, however at some places cantonment boards and private sector installed its hoardings for which request being made to them to remove them immediately. Replying to a query he said there was no any conflict between KMC and KDA and both organizations working jointly under provincial local government ministry.
Any minor issues will also be sorted out soon. Provincial minister said despite of heavy rain, traffic on main city corridors was flowing smoothly and the situation was totally under control. The minister also inspected major storm water drains including Gujjar Nallah, Orangi Town Nallah, PECHS Nallah and other nallahs and issued directive for immediate removal of any chocking points. Administrator Karachi Laeeq Ahmed while giving a briefing on this occasion said better and more arrangements were made this year for monsoon due to the forecast of heavy monsoon rains in the city.
In order to help controlling traffic on major roads and roundabouts and to guide and assist the citizens 650 city wardens have been deputed who would also work during monsoon rains. He said the disaster management department and emergency centers at parks and engineering department were also made functional on round the clock basis and citizens could also lodge their complaints on 1339 for any immediate help during rainy season.
Administrator Karachi said all available resources were used to drain out rain water accumulated during rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. The municipal staff cleared all rain water at various areas including Sharea Faisal, Nursery, Shahra-e-Quaideen, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Tipu Sultan Road, Karsaz and University Road whereas the parks and horticulture department arranged for immediate removal of falling trees after rain.
