Life remains crippled due to strike in Pulwama on 9th day

Srinagar, January 08, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed on the ninth consecutive day, today, in Pulwama district where people are protesting against the authorities’ refusal to allow construction of a Martyrs’ Memorial in Shaheedi Park. The locals are also protesting against the arrest of youth and Hurriyet activists after forceful demonstrations against the killing of two youth by Indian troops at Gursoo in Pulwama, nearly a week ago. All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road, today.

The authorities have deployed Indian troops and police personnel in strength in the district to prevent people from staging anti-India protests. It is to mention here that Immediately after the burial of the martyred youth on December 31, people had clashed with police personnel after they were refused permission to build a memorial. They are demanding permission to build a memorial and release of all arrested youth and pro-freedom activists.
