Jacobabad, January 30, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Regional Director of the USAID for Sindh and Balochistan Leon Waskin distributed certificates among 120 students upon completion of two year English Access Program at a ceremony held at the Victor Public School in Jacobabad. The two year English Access Micro scholarship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
The English Access Micro scholarship Program provides a foundation of English language to talented 14- to 18 – year-olds from economically disadvantaged sectors through after school classes and intensive summer activities.
Participants gain English skills that may lead to better jobs, educational prospects, and increased opportunity to participate in future exchanges. Since its inception in 2004, over 95,000 students in more than 85 countries have participated in the Access Program. Pakistan has the largest Access program in the world with over 5,000 students in 18 locations across the nation.
The Access Program in Jacobabad has been managed by Victor Public Higher Secondary School Jacobabad, with 120 students participating. The program helped students to improve their English language proficiency from beginner to intermediate level, and provided them a variety of experiences to enhance their confidence and leadership skills
