Lahore, November 26, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appealed to the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to direct concerned officers to conduct a transparent and impartial enquiry into the news item reporting deaths of some persons reportedly drug addicts who had taken cough syrup produced by a reputed pharmaceutical company.
In a statement issued here Monday, the LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar said that some elements were sensationalizing the news by giving it a different colour for their vested interests whereas the autopsy reports had already made it clear that the drug addicts were died of over dose of the cough syrup. Further reports regarding the quality of the syrup have also been received to the satisfaction of the health department.
According to the doctors, who conducted the autopsy, the people who consumed the said syrup, were addicts and they were under the influence of alcohol.
The LCCI President also urged the Chief Minister to issue necessary directions for unsealing the factory as a haphazard action had deprived over 400 people working with the company of their jobs while the entire industry is in a state of shock.
The LCCI President further said that the economic scenario is already depressing and wrong portrayal of facts will deteriorate the existing fragile.
