Peshawar, May 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Health, Shahram Khan Tarakai has directed the authorities of his department to introduce an independent monitoring system in the department on the pattern of the one recently introduced in the education department, in order to ensure the attendance and punctuality of doctors and other para medic staff of all the health delivery outlets in the province and to run the day to day business of the these outlets in a transparent and organized manner.
He was chairing a meeting held here the other day regarding Annual Development Program (ADP) of health department. Various matters related to the proposed new and ongoing developmental schemes to be included in the ADP for the financial year 2014-15 came under discussion.
Besides special secretary Health Akbar khan, other concerned authorities of the department attended the meeting. The health minister stressed that the ADP should be realistic, rational and according to the genuine needs and demand of the public, and such schemes be included on priority basis in the ADP which could benefit the maximum population of an area.
“Provision of all the medical treatment facilities in the existing hospitals should be preferred instead of constructing new buildings in the ADP and automation program of hospitals should be an integral part of it “, he further emphasised.
Shahram Khan said that any effort to improve the performance of hospitals would not yield the desired result unless and until an effective and independent monitoring mechanism was put in place in the department; hence the establishment of Independent Monitoring Unit be given top priority in the ADP. He further directed the quarters concerned to take necessary steps to install tracking devises in hospital ambulances in order to put an end to the misuse of those ambulances.
