Peshawar, May 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Health, Shahram Khan Tarakai has directed the concerned quarters of health department to complete all the required arrangements for polio vaccination and issuance of polio vaccination certificate for passengers going abroad at Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar within one day.
He further directed the high ups to immediately convene a meeting of the airport authorities to set up a polio counter at the airport for the purpose and to depute vaccination staff of both the health department and Civil Aviation Authority with round the clock duties in separate shifts. He was chairing a meeting to discuss matters related to the issuance of polio vaccination certificate to passengers going aboard at Health Secretariat Peshawar on Friday.
Besides issues related to polio certification, matters related to the available stock of polio vaccines in the province, purchase of the required quantity of the vaccine, provision of funds for the same, number of arriving and departing passengers at various transit points of the province and arrangements for their vaccination at the transit points came under deliberation in the meeting and a number of important decisions were taken to this effect.
The Provincial Minister also directed the quarters concerned to make all necessary arrangements for providing free of cost services and facilities of polio vaccination and certification under one-window operations at all the district headquarters hospitals and teaching hospitals of the province.
The meeting decided to authorize the District Health Officers and Medical Superintendents of DHQ Hospitals and teaching Hospitals to issue the polio vaccination certificate. Special Secretary Health Akbar Khan, Director General Health Services Dr. Abdul Waheed Barki, Deputy Director EPI, Dr. Janbaz Afridi, DHO Peshawar Dr. Zafar, Chief Executive LRH Peshawar, Medical Superintendents of various hospitals, representatives of UNICEF and WHO, and other concerned quarters attended the meeting.
While approving the design and contents of the polio vaccination certificate, the meeting decided that the polio vaccination certificate compulsorily carry the CNIC No, Passport No, and vaccine batch number of the bearer. It also decided to indentify all the transit points on the boarders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with FATA and other province and set up polio vaccination counters therein to ensure vaccination to every outgoing and incoming passenger.
Addressing the participants of the meeting Shahram Tarakai stressed upon concerned authorities to ensure free of cost polio vaccination and certification facilities to the public and said that it was the prime responsibility of the government to provide all the basic facilities of health to the people free of cost. He strictly directed the relevant quarters to ensure transparency in the process of polio certification and vaccination in all respects and maintain computerized record of the whole process.
“In case of any negligence or malpractice the responsible will be dealt with iron hands”, he warned. He asked the authorities to furnish a detail report about the available stock and the required quantity of polio vaccines and prepare a summary for the Chief Minister for provision of funds to purchase polio vaccines. It was also decided in the meeting to launch an awareness campaign through media to educate the public about the polio vaccine certification.
