Peshawar, July 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health and spokesman of the provincial government Shoukat Ali Yousafzai has strictly directed the high officers of the health department to ensure provision of free emergency services to the patients in the public sector hospitals and immediately start MRI, CT Scan and other machinery for the provision of services to the patients on concessional rates as announced by the government.
He issued these directives while chairing a coordination meeting of the health department in Peshawar on Wednesday. Secretary Health Fakhre Alam, Special Secretary Akbar Khan, Director General Health Services Dr. Zafar and all the district health officers and medical superintendents were present on the occasion. The minister also directed for immediate steps for controlling the supply of substandard medicines in the hospitals. He announced provision of MRI and CT Scan facilities to the patients in all the regional hospitals as well.
The minister health stated that the government of PTI had started reforms in the health department and a working group of health experts had been established which would compile its recommendations till July 25. He said the recommendations of the working group would be implemented in letter and spirit so that the patients could get the required medical facilities on local level according to the PTI manifesto.
Shoukat Yousafzai also directed that the presence of doctors should be ensured in the hospitals during the office hours from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm. He said ban on the private practice of doctors should be ensured and those who violate the official directives should be dealt with severely. He further asked the heads to get weekly progress report from all the doctors posted in the districts and should be sent to the concerned authorities. Similarly report should be compiled against all the absent doctors.
The minister health declared that no exploitation of the patients would be tolerated more and the doctors needed to change their minds and behaviour. He assured that in the health sector no political interference would be allowed, however, those who were found in negligence to duty would be dealt with iron hands.
Referring to the problems facing the health department employees, the minister said most of the problems could be solved with better management and for that firm commitment among the employees was need of the hour. However, he said the government would try its best to remove the problems and would provide all the necessary resources in this connection. He said they had come to power with a mandate of change and the government machinery should coordinate with us for the removal of the difficulties of the people.
