Karachi, November 27, 2016 (PPI-OT): In connection with the fire that broke out yesterday in Pakistan House International (PHI), a private oil terminal in Oil Installation Area Keamari, a joint effort was started by KPT to extinguish fire. It is through joint untiring effort of KPT, Pakistan Navy and City District Government that fire was brought under control for which unprecedented support has been rendered by all the fire fighting agencies deployed in the area.

Preliminary investigations at this stage has revealed non adherence to safety measures by the PHI staff in taking the sounding of the storage tank of methanol. A detailed inquiry into this aspect is expected by TAP. Compliance in ensuring the provisions of Petroleum Act 1934 and The Explosives Rules 1940 by terminal operator from Chief Inspector Explosive in getting NOCs is also need to be inspected by TAP. Pending inquiry of the incident by TAP, the storage facilities at PHI have been put off line by KPT. The regular shipping operations at all Oil Piers and the discharge of POL products from the storage tanks have been resumed.
