Brussels, February 11, 2015 (PPI-OT): Kashmir Council EU observed martyrdom anniversaries of two prominent Kashmiri martyrs Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru in Brussels, the capital city of Belgium. A seminar was organised in the connection with a large participation of the people from all walks of life including prominent Europeans, Kashmiris and Pakistanis in Brussels. A number of European students and international journalists were also present on the occasion.
Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world observe the martyrdom anniversary of prominent Kashmiri liberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt every year on Feb 11. Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged in Tihar Jail of New Delhi on the 11th February in 1984 for his leading role in the Kashmiris’ on-going liberation struggle. He was buried in the premises of the prison. Muhammad Afzal Guru was second Kashmiri who was hanged and buried at the same Tehar prison by the Indian Authorities on Feb 9, 2013. Hanging of the Kashmiri youth Afzal Guru had been also evoked widespread condemnation by human rights organisations.
The speakers of the seminar were including former EU Ambassador Anthony Crasner, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed, Khalid Mehmood Joshi, Haji Waseem, Sardar Sadique, Shiekh Majid, Sarfraz Rafiqi, Pervaiz Losar, Mir Shahjahan, Andre Barch and Kenth Roay.
The speakers demanded the world community to stop atrocities against the innocent and peaceful people of Kashmir. They also asked Indian government to hand over of the remains of Afzal Guru and Maqbool But to their families in Kashmir for proper funeral and decent burial. Paying rich tribute to Butt and Guru, they said, the two great martyrs are lights for struggle of the people of Kashmir for their right of self-determination.
Speaking at the seminar Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed said, Indian acted inhumanely by holding bodies of the martyrs at jail. No human being and no one of the civilised societies in the world accept such ruthless behaviour as India is doing with the Kashmiris.
Ali Raza Syed also warned that by hanging the people and committing crimes against the humanity in the occupied Kashmir, the India can not stop the peaceful movement of the Kashmiris. The people of Kashmir are struggling for the rights of self-determination accepted under UN Security Council’s resolutions and as well as promised by the Indian Authorities.
He also denounced Indian atrocities against the people of Kashmir including extra judicial killings and the house arrest and detention of a number of leaders in the held valley.
