Kashmir conference in Brussels highlights HR abuses in IOK

Brussels, June 08, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of EU-Pak Friendship Federation, Chaudhry Perveiz Losar, organized a Kashmir conference in collaboration with the Members of European Parliament Wajid, Alex Mayer, Julie Ward, John Howarth and Sean Simon Anthena.

The conference was attended by human rights/Kashmiri activists, journalists and members of Kashmiri diaspora. Ms Shamin Shawl from occupied Kashmir delivered keynote speech and highlighted the issue of Aasifa rape-and-murder and use of pallet guns on innocent people in the occupied territory. She said as a daughter of Kashmir she understands the meaning of unlimited sufferings faced by the people in Palestine.

She said Aasifa, the 8 years little angle, kidnapped, raped and killed in cold blood at Hiranagr in Kathua area of Jammu region is symbol of occupation in Kashmir. She said that India was using lethal weapon pellet guns only in occupied Kashmir. “It (pellet gun) is not used anywhere in India. They use it to control the peaceful protests. Indian occupation forces have fired more than 2.3 millions pellets in different areas of Kashmir.” Ms Jolly Ward MEP told the audience that she would soon host a programme on Kashmiri widows whose husbands have been killed by the Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.

The conference was widely covered by European and international media. Meanwhile, the Chairman of Kashmir Council European Union, Ali Raza Syed, in a statement issued in Brussels appreciated international display of photographs of the famous French-Belg photographer Cédric Gerbehaye.

The website of globally famous National Geographic Channel has uploaded the photographs clicked by Mr Gerbehaye during his recent visit to occupied Kashmir. The photographs appeared on the website highlights the miseries of the people of the occupied territory and how they struggle for freedom in a brutal environment and a severe pressure by the occupation forces.

Ali Raza Syed said, as a photograph always gives an important message, these photos show to the world the severe psychological trauma among the people of Kashmir. There is no treatment for such pain, it is necessary to help to bring the victims out of the trauma, he added.
