Karachi, December 04, 2012 (PPI-OT): Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has finalised the Greater Karachi Sewage Treatment Plan S-III. Famous British consultancy firm Wsatkins has completed their work and under this project 550 million gallons of sewage would be treated daily before disposing off in the sea.
President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari is expected to inaugurate the project within this month, said Managing Director KW and SB Misbahuddin Farid. Project Director Ayub Shaikh and other concerned KW and SB officers were also present on this occasion.
M.D KW and SB said that the untreated water was a danger to the marine life whereas it was also putting the environment at risk. Due to these factors PC-I of S-III project was formulated and approved on the directions of Former-Mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal during 2007.
President Asif Ali Zaradi, Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Minister Local Bodies Agha Siraj Durrani and Haq Parast MPA’s took special interest in the project allocating a budget of 1700 million. Upon completion, 550 million gallons of water would be treated and disposed into the sea.
This would not only provide the citizens with a cleaner environment throughout the city but would also improve the conditions along the coast and safety of the marine life.
Five treatment plants would in installed under this project, which would be completed in 4 years. Tenders in this regard would be initiated within few days.
M.D KW and SB stated that President of Pakistan seeks resolution for the problems of the citizens of Karachi and approval of K-IV with a budget of 2500 million and S-III with a budget of 1700 million would improve the environmental situation along the coast and in the city.
