Karachi Water Sewerage Board disconnects water supply to Sindh Industrial Trading Estate

Karachi, December 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has disconnected the supply to SITE Ltd, the administration of SITE Ltd. has been informed about this decision.

During a meeting chaired by Managing Director Misbahuddin Farid, performance of Revenue Department and the recovery campaign against the defaulters was overviewed. DMD Revenue Waqar Hashmi and other concerned officers of the revenue department were also present on this occassion.

D.M.D Waqar Hashmi briefed the meeting that SITE Ltd. is a defaulter of 500 million rupees and a notification in this regard was issued last week. However, display of irresponsive behaviour and lack of cooperation from SITE Ltd. has left no choice but to disconnect the water supply.

SITE Ltd. upon disconnection contacted KW and SB with a payment of 100 million rupees promising to clear the dues soon. The 100 million rupee check was bounced the day after and SITE administration has still not responded in this regard.

M.D KW and SB expressing his distress on this behavior directed to discontinue the water supply to SITE Ltd. untill full payment. KW and SB supplies 5 million gallons of water to SITE Ltd. on daily basis and SITE Ltd. receives the water bill from their consumers.

M.D KW and SB talking to the meeting said that KW and SB is a public service institution supplying water to the city. This water is brought to Karachi from reservoirs situation 200 kilometres away from the city via three pumping phases.

KW and SB pays heavy dues for pumping, filtration, chlorination, electricity and diesel. On one hand, the price hike in all products and services is making it difficult for KW and SB to maintain a steady supply on the other lack of cooperation from bulk consumers only adds to the problem.

He said that, KW and SB is left with no other choice but to discontinue the supply to the defaulters, until full payment. He directed the Revenue and Engineering Department to continue the Recovery Campaign without taking any pressure. These actions are taken for the betterment of the institution so that KW and SB can ensure a swift and steady supply to the city of Karachi.
