Karachi Water and Sewerage directs to take immediate action and stop all overflows

Karachi, March 05, 2013 (PPI-OT): Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Misbahuddin Farid upon receiving various overflow complaints from citizens of Karachi has directed to take immediate action and stop all overflows.

He was addressing a meeting with Deputy Managing Directors Iftikhar Ahmed (Technical Services), Mashkoor ul Hasnain (Planning), Mairajuddin (Finance), Waqar Hashmi (RRG), Shakeel Ahmed (HRD and A) all Chief Engineers and concerned officers.

He said that a proper strategy for resolving complaints must be formulated and implemented immediately. Moreover, the strategy must be devised to resolve the issue in two phases, in the first phase manholes of all major roads must winced and in the second phase small sewerage lines and roads must be cleared, he added. Expressing his distress over poor quality of manhole covers he said that special attention must be given to procurement and quality of manhole covers. Manhole covers must be of good quality so that they last longer.

He also directed that an Executive level officer must be placed as in charge of these operations. He directed that the procedures must be computerized and stock registers of manhole covers and ring slabs must be maintained on computers. Chief Engineers would be responsible for checking the record from time to time and ensure that all areas are provided with ample stock of manhole covers and ring slabs.

During the meeting Executive Engineer Rasheed Al-Amin was appointed the Focal Person for matters related to procurement of manhole covers and quality control. He would also be responsible for manufacturing of the manhole covers and to ensure best quality during the manufacturing.

Furthermore, he directed that in order to provide the citizens with clean and healthy environment all Chief Engineers and their respective staff must ensure that all manholes are covered properly and sewerage overflows are resolved in a timely manner.

He requested the citizens that they must report sewerage overflow and missing manholes at their nearest officer so that KW and SB staff can resolve the problem. He also directed Chief Engineers to ensure that all line leakages are stopped so that citizens are provided with better water supply. He said that line leakages waste a large amount of water and it is our duty to ensure that line leakages are stooped immediately.
