Karachi, August 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): Karachi Water and Sewerage Board spokesperson has stated that during heavy rain KW and SB systems were fully operational and special measures were taken to keep the sewage system that resulted in reduced number of sewerage overflow complaints. However, Chief Engineers are inspecting sewerage system and sewerage lines in their respected zones to find out the cleanliness of the lines.
A detailed report would be submitted with regards to open manholes, and choked sewerage lines to M.D Secretariat. Executive Engineers are directed to carry out these orders whereas; all Superintendent Engineer and Executive Engineers are responsible for cleaning of lines and repair of man-holes in their areas.
During the rain sand, gravel, mineral water bottles and plastic shoppers loitered by people also enter these lines along with rain water. Moreover garbage heaps collected for disposal also enter sewerage lines and choke them, therefore it is vital that lines are cleaned on immediate basis.
All Chief Engineers, Superintendent Engineers and Executive Engineers are ensuring that all man-holes in the city are promptly repaired. Strict compliance with these orders has been ordered and Executive Engineers are to submit a detailed report attested by their concerned Superintendent Engineers and Chief Engineers to the M.D Secretariat. Report should comprise of number of open man-holes, number of covers places and repairs as well as details about cleaning of chocked lines.
Requesting citizens to report open man-holes at their zonal offices or phone number 99244595-6 KW and SB spokesperson said that in case of complaints concerned officer would face severe consequences.
