Karachi Water and Sewerage Board opens 21 legal hydrants

Karachi, October 21, 2012 (PPI-OT):  Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has opening the 21 legal hydrants after IG Sindh and Commissioner Karachi’s assurance that the illegal hydrants would be brought down within 15 days.

 

KW and SB spokesperson stated that the hydrants were shutdown on 3rd September 2012 due to the illegal hydrants severely damaging the revenue income. Since then KW and SB has been appealing IG Sindh and Commissioner Karachi to crack down the illegal hydrants. Chief Engineer KW and SB has provided a detailed list of Illegal Hydrants and their owners to Interior Ministry, IG Sindh.

 

I.G Sindh and Commissioner Karachi have assured KW and SB that the illegal hydrants would be brought down within next 15 days upon which KW and SB has decided to reopen the hydrants conditionally.

 

Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Misbahuddin Farid has directed the DMD T and S and Chief Engineer WTM to reopen the hydrants and ensure that the directions are followed properly. As per the decided conditions, Gratis Services have been terminated. Chief Engineer (WTM) would be the in charge of all hydrants.

 

Moreover, the rate of water filling charges shall continue as per the present fixed rate of the individual hydrant. Hydrant contractors are bound to work as per decided hours, number and size of the filling points. Any hydrant violating these rules would be shut down.

 

Chief Engineer (WTM) is going to post a Superintending Engineer to monitor the operation of Water Hydrants and make sure that 40% GPS trips out of the total water tanker trips of a hydrant are ensured positively.

 

The DMD (TS), Chief Engineer (WTM) and other hydrant staff shall ensure that no loss is made to the Government exchequer through any KW and SB hydrant. Moreover, they are going to make sure that hydrants maintain a register of daily trips supplied which shall be kept and maintained at the respective hydrant and the tankers are released with a dispatched slip. Hydrant Contractors are bound to pay their dues within next 5 days.
